How to Peel and Slice an Avocado
To choose a ripe avocado, gently squeeze it. It should give just a little without being squishy.
You’ll need:
- sharp knife
- cutting board
- an avocado (!)
Cut the the avocado in half lengthwise, all the way down to the seed and all the way around. Twist the halves apart; the seed usually stays stuck in one side. Carefully take your knife and give the seed a good whack with the knife blade with the knife blade pointing down so that it looks like you are going to cut the seed. Gently turn the seed and pull it out with the knife.
Place the avocado half cut-side-down on a cutting board and peel the skin off.
Using a sharp knife, slice straight down through the peeled, halved, pitted avocado.
Remember: avocados turn brown once cut and exposed to air. You can slow this process by storing leftovers (of avocados? Doubtful!) in water. You can store it this way in the refrigerator for two days. (Make avocado toast for breakfast tomorrow morning!)
